cape hatteras, north carolina

November 16, 2010

today’s post is a collection of photographs i shot when i was invited on my good friend patrick’s surf trip to cape hatteras, north carolina back in late august. it was a hell of a time. all in all, it was about a week of road and beach. neither of which are really my thing, but i had an amazing time, and thank you again patrick for taking me on this one. our crew was originally myself, patrick, our friend james and patrick’s friend mike’s dog, silver. we spent the first night in new york city at our friend soyoung’s apartment, and before you knew it, soyoung was along for the trip with two more dogs, mattie and anakin. so that made four people, three dogs, three surfboards and a shit-ton of bags in one little saab 9-3. we worked it out and forged on. after a very long time on the road, we arrived at the camp on the cape, spirits high at 4AM. the first night of sleep kicked our asses (my ability to pick a campsite at 4AM clearly lacking), and then waking up knowing no one was tough. however, the group we were sent to meet up with turned out to be one of the coolest and most friendly group of strangers i have ever met. it was an amazing week with beautiful weather, great people, and a wonderful way to say goodbye to the summer of 2010. unfortunately, i didn’t take a lot of photographs on the trip, because i was usually too busy having way too much fun. oh well! please do enjoy what i did get.

the captain of the mystery ship, patrick, at the wheel as we hit the road on the first day.

stopping off in new york was nice, as we got to see our old friend juddy for the first time in a little while. it was also a nice goodbye to sleeping in beds for the week.

packing was a challenge for the entire trip.

thanks to patrick feeding silver french fries in this photo, silver practically refused all food other than french fries for the rest of the trip.

ah, road trips.

arrival! this was our terrible camp site for the first night. note the ridiculous hill. the “shoot from the hip” idea has never failed harder.

pat poses by our second campsite, which was far better than the first, and became home for four days.

we were invited to mike’s camp for lunch on day three.

group shot! (minus silver)

here’s silver. silver wanted only french fries, and demanded a lap whenever we were driving. nonetheless, a radical character.

mattie.

i hadn’t seen soyoung in almost four years before this trip. she is a great companion for a road trip.

this is james. he is quite a mysterious character, and he will be pissed about photographs of him being in this entry, but he was a big part of this road trip and he’s a hell of a friend. so deal.

this is mike. our invitation to this trip was all thanks to him. mike is one great dude.

these horrid things were EVERYWHERE. one wrong step resulted in a lot of pain. i wore boots almost the entire week due to these terrible things. everyone stepped on at least one, patrick took one to the thigh, and anakin got one to the snout.

patrick is a goof but he has been one of my best friends since i was about fourteen. thanks again for bringing me, pat.

and just like that, it was over before we knew it. hopefully, we’ll be making the same trip again this coming august.

thanks for looking!

the stark minimum of creating i am doing right now is starting to driving me crazy. ugh.

a story about summer..

August 2, 2010

well, as always, time flies.

so where have i been and what have i done this summer? simple.

people worked on motorcycles.

then people did silly things at parties and had fun.

i hung out with wonderful people, as always.

then some other wonderful people moved on and are already missed.

then we played on the beach like ronaldo.

then it was the fourth of july.

and then some new wonderful people (and their giant moving trucks) came into our lives.

then one day it rained so bad our street flooded, and we laughed at everybody and enjoyed it.

then, just the other day i sat next to a beautiful pond and played scrabble for hours.

clearly, it’s been a great summer.

back to work, back to color

May 28, 2010

whew! how about that. got distracted from working so much there that i didn’t really shoot. regretful. i’ve solved it though, and i’ve got some new flicks for today. rad. i’ll also have some more in the next few days that i’m sure i’ll force you all to look at as well. so, for now, enjoy these little images from my awesome brain + camera combination.

these are from last tuesday, a very hot day on which i enjoyed some freshly brewed iced tea with my roommate (and muse) colin and watched him work on our new garden in our backyard. out of nowhere, jeremy and waldo showed up on their bikes. after that, i’m sure some fun was had. enjoy!

thanks for checking! more soon, i promise.
